Taking care of your dog on the fourth of July

It’s that time of the year again! Fire up your BBQ grills bake some apple pie and get ready for the light show. For many of us who own dogs this time of year can be a pain point for our furry friends so here are a few tips for keeping your little fuzzy besties safe during the fourth of July.

1. Keep your dog inside on the fourth

All the noise that fireworks and festivities bring can often scare dogs. When dogs get scared they will run and may find a way to escape your yard as a result of an ill-timed firework. It is best to keep them inside so they find their comfortable place in your home throughout the party.

2. Add some white noise to the mix

While the gunpowder blows overhead in celebration of our proud American heritage you might consider adding some white noise to dull out the jarring nature of fireworks. Play some soft music or turn the TV in order to drown out what is going outside. This can help drown out what is happening outside and help you calm your dog.

3. Stay Home

If your dog is a sensitive soul, it may be best to stay at home throughout the fireworks. Your dog will ultimately be less anxious if you are home and be less inclined to try and escape.

EVERY MOMENT COUNTS

4. Make sure there chipped and Dog tags are up to date

Just in case Fido does escape during the party, make sure you aren’t kicking yourself for not taking care of a small detail that will bring your furry friend home to you. We suggest the dog tags and the microchip just in case the microchip can’t be read by the scanner and also tags can be lost. Two is better than one, as they say

5. Take them out more than often before the grand finale

Walking your dog frequently is a great thing to do before all of the noise begins. A lot of dogs get nervous at the moment the big bang begins. Walking your dog frequently before the fourth will allow them to familiar with all the noises excited Americans make testing their firework kits before the fourth of July
